It is never quite possible to reboot life. But the desire to do so is ever present in face of failure, of feeling stuck and suspended in thought. We yearn for a second chance, indulging in the possibility of restarting our life on a blank slate. Life could not be lived without second chances. But second chances are only notional, a kind of stoicism, coined to handle the displeasure of failures. And yet, since life is circumstantial and does not repeat itself, all second chances are first chances. We live by the metaphor of second-ness only to experience specific moments anew, to relish fresh hopes amidst stale disappointments, to infuse ideals into a world of chaos and compromise. The reboot button, suspended in time, is a matter of perception. Hang in there.
