Melati Suryodarmo Indonesian, b. 1969

Melati Suryodarmo (b. 1969, Solo, Indonesia) graduated from the Hochschule für
Bildende Künste Braunscheweig, Germany. Her practice is informed by Butoh, dance and history, among others. Her work is the result of ongoing research in the movements of the body and its relationship to the self and the world. These are translated into photography, dance choreography, video and live performances. Suryodarmo has presented her works in locations all over the world for more than 20 years. Since 2007, she has been organizing performance art events and laboratories. She founded Studio Plesungan in 2012, a space for performance and performing arts.
